It's not an uplifting anthem. This is a fairly dark, depressing song despite the title. Basically, the whole song is about a person feeling empty and doing self-destructive things to try to feel the void, hence the "driving drunk," and "crush a bit, roll a bit" referring to drugs, obviously.

There are other clues to the dark place the person singing this song is in, specifically the whole verse referring to nightmares and waking up in cold sweats. Basically, the drugs and alcohol can only help him fake happiness for so long before he wakes up in dark place all over again.

The most important song is the chorus, however. I'll be fine once I get it. I'll be good. The person of this song is not fine, but wants desperately to cling to the idea that if he can just find that one thing to fill the void, he can truly be happy.

But at least a part of him knows that's not very realistic, saying "I know everything that shines ain't always going to be gold. This song is definitely not glorifying drunk driving and drug use. Just the opposite in fact. There was an error. Don't forget the part where he said "If I fall, if I die, know I lived it to the fullest. If I fall, if I die, know I lived and missed some bullets.

General Comment Here we go! Keep in mind ratatat and MGMT are involved in this song. This song is addressing something that is going on with my generation specifically in the Midwest. At first no one could make him think otherwise.

AMDdecker on October 03, Link. Karma on December 07, This song is about sleeping paraylsis "Night Terrors". He probaly experiences this sleeping disorder. Hes asking if anyone has ever felt "night terrors"? Check out sleeping paraylsis, shits intense.

Some times when you experience "Night terrors" You feel as if your body is afloat. In the skies. The one rare comment that hits the nail on the head. It's tragic if you really think about it and that's what makes this song so good.

He's being real and upfront. We all want to be happy. Kid Cudi shows some depth here and I respect him greatly for it. AMDdecker is totally right. I'm from Chicago and the midwest is def this way. In a nut shell partying and doing drugs at first seems like everything will be totally fine HENCE at the end of the music video he's falling down and looking really f-ed up yea it is about partying too hard myjam27 on June 01, It seems the vast majority of people think this song is praising the pursuit of happiness at all costs, from drunk driving, to not listening to people, to missing bullets probably figurative.

The song goes on to talk about how not everything shiny is actually gold -- not something actually worth having. But even knowing that it's not worth having, Kid Cudi says that he'll be "fine" and "good" once he gets it. This is a bad habit or addiction -- you know it's not good, but you keep thinking that you'll be better if you just get the next score. The song title even gives this away - Pursuit of Happiness Nightmare.

My Interpretation To me, the song is essentially showing the dark side of "pursuing happiness" through the means of alcohol, drugs, etc. The song is showing how much he is craving living life to the fullest, whether it's by drinking, doing drugs, whateverhe is going to pursue pleasure and fun at any cost. Instead of presenting a happy ending to this way of life, the song takes a sharp turn, where he talks about night terrors, cold sweats and ends with him passing out and falling down, regretting drinking and smoking so much.

In a dark way, the song is showing that this lifestyle is in reality more of a nightmare hence the name "Pursuit of Happiness Nightmare ".

The song takes a sharp turn, and talks about the perils of this lifestyle and what he loses as a resulthis friends, his family, love, innonence, etc. The song ends with them getting divorced and chocking to death on their own vomit. The theme, while dark, is a powerful one. The fast life isn't as glamorous as it appears, and instead of acheiving happiness most end up living a nightmare.
