What is the difference between metoprolol succinate and toprol xl
Ive taken all three with out much trouble My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too always over Will these meds lower my pulse also? I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day.
I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely. I contacted my cardiologist because I had a couple episodes where it felt like my heart was fluttering. I have been on Toprol XL for a little over a year 25mg due to having a afib attack last memorial day and having to be converted. She had me do a holter study for 2 days to see what was happening.
She told me that my heart rate was running too high and that I had a 30 second episode of atrial flutter. The cardiologist told me to stop it, I had shortness of breath and terrible night sweats. I cut them in half and did that for 10 days, then I took those half pills every other day for 10 more days and then I stopped. No ill effects. I don't think Metoprolol makes them worse.
What I have seen on myself, however, is that it doesn't work at all. I took up to 50 mg a day. I switched temporarily now to Toprol XL to see if that's the answer since the generics seem to have no effect. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are? Related Links Metoprolol vs toprol xl. Toprol xl vs metoprolol. Toprol xl vs metoprolol tartrate.

It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life.. I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. I dont really know about taking it occassionally I recently wore a 14 day monitor and today my cardiologist said I have STV. I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day.
He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill. I really don't want to because a beta blocker wipes me totally out. I can barely get through the day. When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from mg Toprol XL once a day to mg metoprolol succinate once a day.
Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure.
I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore. I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest.
